What a salon needs from a booking system
A restaurant only needs to know who is next. A salon needs to know who is coming, for which service, with which staff member and for how long. Before comparing prices, check these six criteria.
- Choice of staff member: the client books with the stylist they like, and each person keeps their own schedule.
- Service duration: a gel manicure and a balayage do not block the same time, and the system must leave no overlap.
- Deposit: the client pays part of the price when booking, which protects long or expensive services.
- Reminders: an automatic message before the appointment, so the front desk does not have to call.
- Thai language: a booking page your Thai clients read without effort.
- LINE: if your clients already message you on LINE, the booking link must open there.
A tool can be free and still miss three of these six points. The table in the next section shows which ones each tool covers, according to its own pages.
Free and low-cost booking systems compared
These are the six tools most often cited when owners search for free salon booking software. The information comes from each tool's official pages, checked in October 2026, except where another source is named in the cell. Wix and Fresha prices are in US dollars, and Fresha's exclude local sales taxes.
Each tool has its strengths. Google Calendar is simple if you work alone, MeQueue is built around LINE OA and QueQ is known for waiting lines. Wix suits salons that want a full website, but it requires a site built on Wix, and Fresha is complete salon software.
For a closer look at one pair, read SeeU vs Fresha in detail. The table below sums up the six tools on the same criteria.

Restaurant queues vs salon appointments
QueQ and MeQueue both come from the world of queues, but they do not work the same way. QueQ is a Thai queue app best known for restaurant waiting lines. A queue answers one question: who is next. It works well when every service takes about the same time and nobody pays in advance.
A salon appointment is different. The client books a precise time, with a precise person, for a service that can last 30 minutes or 3 hours, and the salon may ask for a deposit. In the sources we read, we found no staff choice and no deposit on QueQ.
MeQueue is closer to a salon: each service has a price, a duration, a buffer time and the staff who can perform it. Clients choose the service, the stylist and the time themselves through LINE. The shop can require a deposit on selected services, as a fixed amount or a percentage, so it fits salons whose clients already book through their LINE OA.
Is the QueQ app paid?
For customers, Thai press describes QueQ as free to use. What a restaurant or salon pays to be on QueQ is not published on the pages we could read.
When free is no longer enough
Free tools are enough to start. As bookings grow, they start to cost the salon time and money in a few places.
- No-shows: without a reminder or a deposit, an empty chair costs a full service.
- Clashing bookings: requests come through LINE, Instagram and a paper agenda, and two clients end up on the same slot.
- Packages: selling a 10-session package needs a system that counts the sessions left.
- Team: each staff member needs their own schedule and days off.
The cost of a no-show is easy to estimate. Here is an example with assumed figures.
